Styx "Come Sail Away" by American progressive rock group Styx, featured on the band's seventh album The Grand Illusion (1977). Upon its release as the lead single from the album, "Come Sail Away" charted at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, and helped The Grand Illusion achieve multi-platinum sales in 1978. It is one of the biggest hits of Styx' career. Musically, "Come Sail Away" combines a plaintive, ballad-like opening section (including piano and synthesizer interludes) with a bombastic, guitar-heavy second half. In the middle of the second half of the album version is a minute-long synthesizer instrumental. This song contains an allusion to the Bible verse of Ezekiel chapter 1:1-28 where a large wheel/cloud (depending on text) appears to Ezekiel and gives him instructions from God: "A gathering of angels appeared above my head. They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said... (later in song)... I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise, they climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies." Some people believe the figure Ezekiel saw was not a messenger sent from God but an alien space craft or a time machine from the future. n his 1980 book "Rock, Practical Help for Those Who Listen to the Words and Don't like What They Hear," Bob Larson claimed that the song was Satanic, and that the angels/aliens in the song were actually demons. Larson said that demons masqueraded as aliens to mislead the gullible. This being the '70s, radio stations played a big role in promoting songs, and program directors could often be swayed with gifts of money and drugs. Payola, was of course, illegal, but that didn't stop Styx guitarist Tommy Shaw and the band's promo man Jim Cahill from traveling to many of the stations with bags of cocaine in an effort to get more airplay for this song. The tactic worked; Cahill explained on the Styx Behind The Music that program directors were like penguins, since they'd follow you around if you had "snow."Lyrics:I'm sailing away,Set an open course for the virgin sea,'Cause I've got to be free,Free to face the life that's ahead of me,On board, I'm the captain, so climb aboard,We'll search for tomorrow on every shore,And I'll try, Oh Lord I'll try, to carry onI look to the sea,Reflections in the waves spark my memory,Some happy, some sad,I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had,We lived happily forever, so the story goes,But somehow we missed out on the pot of goldBut we'll try best that we can to carry onA gathering of angels appeared above my head,They sang to me this song of hope and this is what they said,They said come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me lads,Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me,Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me baby,Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with meI thought that they were angels, but to my surprise,We climbed aboard their starship, we headed for the skiesSinging come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me ladsCome sail away, come sail away, come sail away with meCome sail away, come sail away, come sail away with meCome sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me...

Thanks for uploading this. Styx is a great band, and I usually sing along with the entire album I have on CD.
